Chinese Recipe : Double Meatballs with Mixed Vegetables


  • 5 oz fish balls
  • 5 oz beef balls
  • 3 ½ cups boiling water
  • 1 cup mixed vegetables
  • 1 slice ginger
  • 1 shallot
  • 2 tbsp oil


  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 ½ tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp wine
  • 1 cup stock
  • 1 tbsp light soy
  • A pinch of pepper

Gravy Mix:

  • 2 tsp cornflour
  • 2 tbsp water
  • ¼ tsp dark soy
  • ½ tsp sesame oil


  1. Blanch the fish balls and the beef balls in 2 cups of boiling water. Refresh and drain.
  2. Blanch the mixed vegetables in 1 ½ cups of boiling water. Remove, wash under the running tap and drain. Leave aside for later use.
  3. Peel and shred the ginger and shallot.
  4. Heat the wok to bring the oil to boil and sauté the ginger and shallot. Put in the mixed vegetables, fish and beef balls. Sprinkle the salt and sugar to stir fry for a while. Sizzle the wine, add the stock and seasoning to simmer for 1 minute. Season to taste. Mix the cornflour with the water and dark soy then stream into the sauce to thicken. Drop in the sesame oil to toss well. Dish and serve.
